Clint Ober – Inventor of Barefoot Grounded Earth Pad

Clint Ober – Raised in Montana – Roots in Nature

Clint Ober was born on July 14, 1944 in Fort Dodge Iowa, but spent most of his formative years in the great state of Montana. There exposed to the Native American Culturehe developed a love of nature and first learned of our important connection to the natural world. His immediate and extended families were farmers and ranchers, who also taught respect for the land and to listen and learn from the ways of the natural world.

Clint Ober – Little Formal Schooling

In 1959 when his father died from leukemia, he was left to take care of his mother and his five siblings with crops in the ground and a herd of livestock. As a result he didn’t finish his schooling.

Clint Ober – Well Versed in Cable Television

Eventually, Clint left the land for the excitement of city life and in the early 1960’s, he took interest in the fledgling CATV industry. After a few years of working with the local CATV operators in Montana, he was hired by Telecommunications Inc. of Denver CO as the National Director of Marketing. During the four years in this position, working with Dr. John Malone, the company grew from near bankruptcy to become the largest CATV operator in the US.

Upon leaving TCI in 1972, Clint began his own company, Telecrafter Corporation, which specialized in developing CATV systems, broadcast television and microwave communication properties. This company became the largest provider of CATV marketing and installation services in the US. The company also developed and owned interests in CATV systems, broadcast television properties and microwave distribution systems throughout Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. This company became public in 1980 and four years later merged with Wegener Communication Inc. of Atlanta GA.

Intrigued with the advent of the personal computer in the early 1980s and seeing the PC as a TV set without a signal, Clint began a new company, X.press Information Services. This company which became a partnership between TCI, McGraw Hill and X.press Information Services, accumulated distribution rights to every known wire services in the world. These included the likes of United Press International and The Associated Press to TASS news agency in Russia, Kyodo in Japan and Xinua in China along with live feeds from all US Exchanges. These wire services combined into a unified data stream were then transmitted via satellite to CATV systems and Broadcasters for redistribution directly to personal computers via multiplexed sub-carriers to a de-mod receiver attached to the PC. At the time, we along with Microsoft, Apple and Commodore assumed that like TV, radio and newspapers, live news and quote information to personal computers would be free [ad supported] and in a broadcast form. Needless to say, the Internet was discovered and e-mail, chat rooms and porn gave rise to a new generation of communications. X.press Information Services then redirected its efforts to serving the news media.

Clint Ober – Health Setback – Changed His Directions Back to his Roots

In 1993, Clint experienced health setbacks. After a very difficult recovery from a major illness, Clint decided that he needed to get back to nature. So, he sold his big home and spent four years traveling around the US. Eventually, Clint decided that many of the health problems that people face, including himself, have to do with not being connected to the earth. His thoughts went back to his Montana roots and the great outdoors and natural world.

Combing his cable television knowledge he knew that static in television came from “un-grounded systems”, Clint drew a parallel to static in the human body being the result of not being grounded. He observed that livestock could live beneath electrical power lines with no signs of stress or ill-health, but people could not. The difference, the livestock were grounded, the people were insulated by their synthetic shoes and houses.

Clint Ober – Decided that a Big Piece of the Health Puzzle is Ground Conctact

Simple ground contact, Clint observed, neutralizes charge in the body and naturally protects the nervous system and the endogenous fields of the body, from extraneous electrical interference. This belief has been expanded to include the neutralization of free radicals produced within the body. Free radicals are produced by the body to destroy pathogens. And ground contact he postulated allows the earth’s free electrons to neutralize excess free radicals. With the free electrons from earth contact, excess free radicals would create an ever escalating cycle of chronic excess free radicals and chronic dis-ease within the body.

Another fact that Clint knew to be true about electrical systems is that grounding protects a system from electrical interference. In our modern world, we have many electrical systems that create free radicals and harm our bodies. Electric blankets, alarm clocks, televisions, etc. all produce magnetic fields. Being grounded to earth protects the human body from those electro-magnetic fields.

Now you know how a cowboy from the great state of Montana became aware of nature’s role in protecting the vital communications of the body.

Clint Ober – On the Trail of Helping Humanity

During the last few years, Clint has spent virtually every waking hour in the pursuit of understanding and identifying the impact that loss of ground contact has had on the body and how to facilitate people to have this ground contact in our modern world. The findings Clint has obtained to date extend far beyond anything he ever imagined at the outset of this journey.

The following summary is an overview in Clint’s own words of how the Barefoot Pad came to be:

In the beginning of my search, time spent with electrical engineers and medical professionals resulted in little more than blank stares and research in the medical libraries turned up nothing. Then after discovering that the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences was compiling a paper on the effects EMFs have on human health. I focused my attention on their work and as luck would have it, their information provided a simple piece of evidence that gave me direction. It was their conclusion that the adverse effects found in some human studies from exposure to EMFs was determined to be inconclusive as thesame effects could not be reproduced in animal studies. Pay dirt, EMFs in some studies adversely affect human health and animals in similar studies [a herd of sheep, baboons and the like] did not experience the same adverse effects. These animals were not wearing shoes and sleeping in comfortable beds insulated from earth, they were naturally grounded.

A method to effectively ground people while in bed was developed and then the new studies began. The effort produced, with a control group, the following results:

went to sleep quicker
reported sleeping better throughout the night
reported waking, being and feeling more rested
experienced a significant reduction in muscle stiffness
experienced the elimination of/or a reduction of chronic back and joint pain
reported improved general health
In addition, several subjects in the study also reported experiencing significant relief from asthmatic and respiratory conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, PMS, sleep apnea and hypertension

Then a Dr Russell Whitten of Ojai, CA confirmed these findings when he took an interest in the study and additionally grounded 35 of his own patients and found similar results.

This combined evidence confirmed that the human body, with loss of ground contact, is now operating in a bio-electrically stressed state.

Now the task is to identify individuals and companies that can help develop and provide effective and safe methods to restore our vital connection to the earth.

Inside Everyone There Is A Champion!

I found inspiration in this article from Maria Adelus,  MaxFormation Champion 2010

I remember that around this time last year I was preparing myself for the MaxFormation champion announcement.  I had made it to the top 10 but the online voting became more nerve-racking as each week passed.  Every day I had to tell myself over and over that I was a champion to matter what the outcome of the MaxFormation or figure competetion I was about to embark on.  I was a champion no matter what because I gave my all.  I was a champion because I believed in myself.  I was a champion because I never gave up.

Maria Adelus

There is a quote that I used to recite to myself as I was preparing for both the MaxFormation and ny very first figure competition.  Lao Tzu once said,  “By letting, it all gets done.  The world is beyond the winning.”

At first this quote ay seem the exact opposite of what any kind of competitor should live by.  However, If you think about it enough,  it makes perfect sense.  A true competitor competes out of his or her passion in the sport itself.    A true competitor competes for a reason that goes much deeper than the desre for fame or money that may come with winning first place.  It is only when a competitor releases the pressure for a win that is based on fame or money, that he or she actually becomes a champion.

As the new MaxFormation champion arises at the end of June, I want to congratulate him or her on a job well done.  However, I also want to encourage the rest of the competitors and tell you that you are all winners.  You are winners simply because of your effort, your faith and your perserverance.  Fame and money may be fleeting but our passion and drive to be a healthier you will never leave as long as you continue to nurture it.  Your ability to inspire others and continually make improvements in your fitness goals will always be at the tip of your fingers.  Each day you will continue to have the power to make a difference in yourself and the world around you.  Whether you are recognized for it or not does not make you anything less than a champion if you truly gave it your all.

Ultimately, the only way you will ever lose in your journey to fitness is if you quit.  All of you, however, have shown your perseverance in healthy living for the past several months.  Because of your perseverance, I have faith in each of you to continue to be a champion not only to yourself but also to those around you.  Don’t let this competition make you feel any less than the greatest of champions.  Continue to strive towards a better life with passion.   And remember what Mike Tysone once said: “Champions don’t quit.”

Want Diabetes? Watch More TV!

Want Diabetes? Watch More TV!
Want Diabetes, Watch More TV

. . . or exercise while you watch and get healthier!

Scientists at Harvard have found that each 2 hours of daily TV viewing raises your risk of Type II diabetes by 20%. Since the average American sits glued to the boob tube 5 hours a day, that’s an increased risk of 50%. And diabetes isn’t the only hazard of watching TV — each 2 hours daily also raises your risk of heart disease by 15% and your risk of death from any cause by 13%.

Watching TV has often been associated with obesity and an unhealthy diet. A study done a few years ago found that overweight kids who watch food advertisements on TV tend to double their food intake.

But I’ll bet the real culprit here is sitting hour after hour and, as a result, getting little exercise. The human body needs movement, exertion and challenge; without them nothing functions as it should.

New market touts eco-friendly vendors

Environmentally conscious mart will debut Aug. 6, much to the delight of O.C. ‘greenies.’

When entrepreneur Rana Sabeh couldn’t find available vendor space to showcase her discount natural products business, she decided to create her own alternative ‘green’ market.

The Orange County Green Market debuts Aug. 6 at the Irvine Valley College.  Everything from eco-friendly cleaning supplies and services , repurposed accessories, natural skin care products and Sabeh’s own business Healthy Bargains will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Saturdays in the college’s parking lot.

“I figured that if I’m an eco-friendly vendor trying to get out on the market and I can’t then there must be others like e who are also having a hard time,” Sabeh, a Huntington Beach resident, said of her decision to launch the market.

With room to fit up to about 80 vendors lined up for the opening weekend with more expected to sign on as the market grows.

No environmentally friendly vendors will be turned away from her market, she said.

“I really want to build a community, for the market to unite what I call the ‘greenies,'” she said.

However, the market is also build on a foundation of education, she said.

Some of the vendor spaces will be  occupied by nonprofits which advocate to raise awareness of ‘green’ lifestyle practces.

“I also want to pull in people who don’t know about living green and educate the to see how t can fit into their liifestyle,” Sabeh said.  “It’s an opportunity for them to understand that it’s a win-win for their health, families and for the environment, as well.”

The market also has an educational component for IVC’s green initiative and business students: free vendor space.

While details are still being worked out, a limited number of students will be able have access to real-world entrepreneurial experience of running a small business — something Sabeh wishes she had access to in college, she said.

“What Rana is doing is very exciting for us at the college,” said Jeff Hurlbut, the college’s director of facilities and maintenance. “Moving forward, we’re trying to gear things and events so students can have interaction in it.”

The college hosts seasonal vendors such as pumpkin and tree lots as well as the occasional craft or car show, Hurlbut said.

Although the market came too late to be worked into this semester’s curriculum, future semesters may hold the opportunity for students to earn course credit for their partcipation, Hurlbut said.

“I don’t know yet what’s going to happen.” Hurlbut said.   “But I ‘m excited to see what students will do with the opportunity.”

The “Business” of Drugs: New Study of 2 Million People Confirms Dangerous side Effects of Cholesterol Drugs

The "Business" of Drugs: New Study

The "Business" of Drugs: New Study

Dear Members,
In a study monitoring more than 2 million people in Britain, researchers from Nottingham University found that adverse side effects of cholesterol lowering drugs, known as “statins,” were generally consistent and worse in the first year of treatment.
Referring to the study earlier this week Reuters News Service reported that people using cholesterol-lowering statins have a higher risks of liver dysfunction, kidney failure, muscle weakness and cataracts and such side effects of the drug should be closely tracked, doctors said on Friday.
See Reuters report: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64J7B820100520
In fact, the study, published in the British Medical Journal, said patients taking statins like Pfizer’s Lipitor and AstraZeneca’s Crestor should be “proactively monitored” for side effects.
“Our study is likely to be useful for policy and planning purposes,” said Julia Hippisley-Cox and Carol Coupland, the two professors who led the study. They said it may also be useful “for informing guidelines on the type and dose of statins.”
Ironically, statins are among the most financially successful drugs of all time yet heart disease continues to be the leading and growing killer of men and women throughout the world.
Coupland and Hippisley-Cox studied data from 368 general practices on 2,004,692 patients aged 30-84 years including 225,922 patients who were new statin users and had been prescribed a range of statins. They found that for every 10,000 high risk women treated with statins, the positive impact would be around 271 fewer cases of heart disease and 8 fewer cases of oesophageal cancer.
On the other side, there would also be 74 extra patients with liver dysfunction, 23 extra patients with acute renal failure, 307 with cataracts and 39 with a muscle weakness condition called myopathy.
The adverse effects including liver dysfunction, acute renal failure, cataracts and a muscle weakness condition called myopathy, were similar for all different types of statins, except for liver dysfunction, where the highest risks were found for Fluvastatin, which is sold by Novartis under the brand names Lescol and Lochol.
“All of the increased risks persisted during the treatment, but were highest in the first year,” they wrote.

The Angel Series: At September 11th Memorial

Kerry Swank was born in 1960 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was raised amid the rich heritage and the inspirational artistic tradition surrounding her native Denmark. From an early age, Ms. Swank recalls watching her father, Palle Schou, a photographic master, who taught her the artistry of the celluloid image. Like her father, she had the innate ability to understand light, framing and the very essence of the image. As a child, she found a sense of solitude and peace when visiting Roskilde Cathedral where her passion for Angelic images was ignited.

In her latest and most extensive endeavor, Ms. Swank presents to a modern day audience her phenomenal The Angel Project; a series of angelic compositions imbued with the highest virtues of grace and nobility as an inspiration to us all. This first series is done with the female figure and each represents the celestial embodiment of virtue.

The Angel Project has become a mission statement for Ms. Swank. Looking at her images, we are called to reflect not only on ourselves but the world at large. In Freedom an angel holds an American flag in the national cemetery. The artist states: “This calls our attention to the wonderful freedom that we have in this Country. Because the liberties that we enjoy are often taken for granted, I wanted all to remember those soldiers in and out of uniform, who have died for the freedom we cherish.”

Freedom is presently hung in a prominent position at the Pentagon in the former Secretary of Defense Corridor. Secretary Donald Rumsfeld wrote: “The work displays outstanding skill, creativity, and thoughtfulness. It offers encouragement and support to our military and civilian workers, and those who visit the Pentagon. I want you to know all of us here at the Pentagon appreciate the time and effort you took. It is your spirit and that of all Americans that will see us through these difficult times.” It will become part of the September 11th, permanent memorial.

Ms. Swank has appeared on FOX News and numerous radio and magazine interviews (list available upon request). Her angel images; Serenity, Faith and Deliverance were recreated and chosen by Golden Globe’s Associated Press as gifts to the attending celebrities. She currently lives and works In Laguna Beach, California. Ms. Kerry Swank is the angel amongst us. Her images reflect our courage, joy and grief and touch the higher self that lives in us all.

There are limited editions available of “The Angel Series”, including the Hand-Colored “Freedom”. For enquires, leave a comment below or contact Derrick Walker with Webstorm Internet Media at 949.355.8692

Monday, June 7th, Newport Beach, CA: Physicians and medical practitioners from around the globe will gather at the Irvine Marriott Hotel July 22-25, for “HBOT 2010”, an educational symposium, of world-wide medical significance.

Their focus will be on the healing and life sustaining benefits of oxygen, in the treatment of serious medical conditions. New to this year’s symposium will be the latest information on the treatment of war veterans with blast injuries, as well as cutting edge information on HBOT’s use for people with cancer and diabetes.

Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy Treatment, (known as HBOT), originated with the treatment of deep sea divers many years ago. Today it is successfully used to treat a wide range of illnesses, injuries and chronic conditions. “Dozens of scientific papers will be presented by international specialists, who are making medical history using oxygen — in its many forms — for healing and sustaining life. This conference will feature the most focused group of oxygen specialists in the world,” said Dr. Donald L. Jolly-Gabriel, Ph.D., Chairman of the Richard A. Neubauer Research Institute, (RANRI) sponsors of the event. This is the 7th bi-annual symposium, presented by the institute.

Some 30 experts, using oxygen in the successful treatment of such diverse conditions as: traumatic brain injury, autism, cerebral palsy, lyme disease, spinal cord injury, alzheimer’s, stroke, diabetic wounds, multiple sclerosis, near-drowning, coma, anoxic encephalopathy, childhood mitochondrial diseases and more; will meet in Orange County, CA., for the first time. An exposition featuring some of the most advanced HBOT equipment and items in related fields will also be available to those in attendance.

“This forum provides a rare opportunity for the public to join the medical community in learning about break-through modalities in use here and abroad, to treat these serious conditions,” Jolly-Gabriel said. “Parents who are seeking alternative treatments for children with any of these conditions are urged to attend. They will interact doctors using HBOT and learn first-hand from and patients how HBOT has changed their prognosis and enhanced their lives.

“Oxygen is God’s gift to us,” Jolly-Gabriel added. “It is the single most important element necessary to sustain life. Although it is readily available everywhere, we are only now beginning to realize its true medical significance. It is a magnificent step forward in medicine.” The symposium will provide educational interaction with many of the world’s most eminent experts in the field.

Among featured speakers will be professor K. K. Jain, author of, “The Handbook of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy,” (now the “Textbook of Hyperbaric Medicine, currently in its fifth edition).” Jain is a retired professor and a highly respected consultant in neurology and hyperbaric medicine. He is also the author of more than 415 publications including 16 books on related topics.

Karen Simmons, CEO and founder of “Autism Today,” will be featured at an Author’s Luncheon Friday, July 23 at noon. Simmons, is the co-author of “Chicken Soup for the Soul, Children with Special Needs,” (co-authored with Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Heather McNamara); and both “The Official Autism 101 Manual,” (an IPPY Gold Medal winner); and the recently released, “Autism Tomorrow, The Complete Guide to helping your Child Thrive in the Real World.”

Dr. Paul Harch, of the University of Louisiana Medical Center, who developed the HBOT protocol being used to restore the lives of American military personnel, following Traumatic Brain Injuries in combat, will be lauded for his work, during the symposium.

In addition, Some of the most recent studies conducted by world renowned brain specialist Dr. Daniel Amen, M.D., of Newport Beach, will also be presented.

HBOT 2010 is designed not only for medical professionals, but for or those who are affected by any of the conditions listed above, or involved in related associations, (i.e. the America Cancer Society, The Autism Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, etc.). The HBOT 2010 agenda includes new approaches in oxygen therapy for the treatment and management of these illnesses.

Attendance will be beneficial to medical professionals including: Neurologists, Pediatricians, Neonatologists, Perinatologists, Physical Therapists, Physiatrists, Orthopedic Surgeons and other professionals. It will afford them new insights into this remarkable medical option as well as practical applications for its use in conjunction with their specialties. Non-professionals such as: care-takers in coma recovery cases, stroke recovery or family members assisting people with disabilities, will also find this program beneficial. “We have done everything possible to make attending this conference exciting, convenient and affordable,” Jolly-Gabriel said. HBOT 2010 has negotiated a conference rate at the Irvine Marriott Hotel, of just $109 per night for those who register before June 15.

Register on-line at http://www.hbot2010.net/index.php. Or, visit the web site for additional information on the coming symposium, conference and exposition.

(Medical writers and bloggers, affiliated recognized media outlets, are invited to cover the event)
